Helsinki
Helsinki, the capital of Finland, has been my home for about two decades now. It is a major source of inspiration for my photography through its many architecture styles and diverse landscapes. Austere at first sight, especially in the dreadful dark wet months (~october through december) and in the early spring when the snow melts, Helsinki has a unique charm that makes it a pleasant city to live in, even though arguably a little too quiet and reserved. Helsinki’s main tourist attractions can be seen in a couple of days, however if you want to truly discover Helsinki, do plan a longer stay so you can venture through its many distinct neighbourhoods essentially Punavuori, Eira, Ullanlinna, Katajanokka, Kruununhaka and Kallio.
Tips: if you plan to visit Helsinki, come in early January when you can expect dry, cold beautiful winter days, or around midsummer time (summer solstice) with days that last forever and trees with bright young leaves. Global warming can however be felt strongly with winters changing drastically, becoming rainy rather than snowy.
